AI MODELS AND METHODs FOR THE LIFE SCIENCES

Research services and infrastructure to support life scientists in the adoption of machine learning solutions that improve the utility and interpretability of image data – the key to future biological and biomedical research.

BRIDGING THE LIFE & COMPUTER SCIENCE COMMUNITIES

The goal of AI4Life is to radically reduce the disparity between the theoretical applicability and the practical use in life sciences of state-of-the-art AI-based image analysis methods. AI4Life will bridge the gap between two rapidly developing fields: AI method development, and biological imaging; providing urgently needed services through the European trans-national and virtual access infrastructures.

FOR LIFE SCIENTISTS

Use our models and methods on your data

To the life scientists, we provide an open, accessible, community-driven repository of FAIR pre-trained AI models for image analysis. Computationally powered by cloud computing infrastructure or local on-premise resources, the versatile interface of the BioImage Model Zoo makes the latest and most advanced methods instantly available, including to those without in-depth computational expertise.

Integration of pre-trained models empowers commonly used image analysis platforms with AI methods hence ensuring easy adoptability. With our direct user support and regular Open Calls, we will reach out to a diverse global audience building a versatile and inclusive infrastructure.

FOR COMPUTER SCIENTISTS

Share your models with the world

AI4Life supports new developer-facing services enabling simple model deployment, sharing, and dissemination of AI-based methods built around the BioImage Model Zoo. We are establishing standards for the submission, storage and access of reference data, reference annotations, trained AI models, and trainable AI methods.
Our standards and services will enable computational scientists and methods developers to reach a large audience of life science users with their latest AI-based analysis methods. Participating in image analysis Challenges will encourage developers to take their methods to the next level while solving outstanding problem in the life sciences.

OPPORTUNITIES FOR THE IMAGING SCIENTISTS

To support our users, regular and targeted training events are organised in the form of workshops and seminars on usability of our services as well as its general driving principles. Method developers can benefit from specialized hackathons for implementation and integration of their tools.

Outreach activities with our Research Infrastructure partners will focus on including various scientific disciplines, including structural biology, medicinal chemistry, marine biodiversity and plant phenotyping, creating a vibrant and diverse user community.
